The ATN Night Spirit-2 is a lightweight yet rugged multi-purpose Night Vision system with a high-resolution 2nd Generation intensifier tube that delivers bright and sharp images in total darkness. The versatile unit can be hand-held or head-mounted for hands free use (with optional head gear or helmet mount) and is waterproof, making it a great choice for outdoors applications. With all-glass optics that are specially coated to absorb light and a integrated infrared illuminator for clear sight in total darkness, no conditions are too dark for effective ATN Night Spirit-2 use.

2nd Generation nightvision provides bright and sharp images.

The Spirit-2 Night Vision is rugged and compact.
About 2nd Generation Nightvision:
Primarily used by law enforcement or for professional applications, 2nd Generation Nightvision provides a much brighter and sharper image than 1st Generation Nightvision can. This is primarily to the addition of a micro-channel plate, commonly referred to as a MCP, in the 2nd Generation system. The MCP works as an electron amplifier and is placed directly behind the photocathode. The MCP consists of millions of short parallel glass tubes. When the electrons pass through these short tubes, thousands more electrons are released. This extra process allows 2nd Generation units to amplify the light many more times than the 1st Generation counterpart for much greater image clarity.

5Good value Gen 2+ NV scope
By Brian S. Shaffer
This is my 2nd Gen II+ NV scope. It comes with a 3x lens and I paid $999.00 for mine. You can buy a picatinny adapter and 1x lens combo from ATN or some vendors (make sure you get the combo and not just the adapter for that price from vendors) for use with optics on rifles.

I found this scope to be better than my Night Optics Gen II+ D-300M-2ST I had purchased some months previous for $1500.00 that comes with a 1x lens. The price of the ATN with the mount 2 lenses was more than $300 less than the Night Optics scope and additional picatinny rail mount with just 1 lens.

On both models, there is an IR emitter that is fine for casual viewing of things a very short distances (maybe 20 yards, max) and that don't work well when mounted on a rifle.

As a value for function, I would give the ATN 5 stars. The fit of the components to the heavy duty polymer housing wasn't perfect, but does not appear to negatively affect the function of the scope in any way. If I need another comparable scope, I would buy another ATN Night Spirit.

FYI, a buddy purchased a similar Gen III version from ATN and paid close to $3000 for his scope. Gen III scopes should provide better resolution and better light amplification, but for the difference in cost, I could not see there being any significant difference out to about 30 yards inside the barn where we tested them side by side. His scope is slightly smaller, but not significantly.

Both the Night Optics and ATN Night Spirit were purchased for use on rifles for the purpose of hog eradication. In speaking with reps from both companies, each was said to be OK for use with rifle calibers up to .308, but not with .45-70 or with 12 ga. shotguns.

4ATN Night Spirit Gen 2 worth the money
By Rick
It was quick to adjust into focus, it has an eye cup to block extra light at the pupil, and I like the locking IR knob. It's hard to accidentally flip the IR on and run your batteries down because the knob must be pulled and rotated for on and off. The pulling turn knob is a great feature.

For a Gen 2 it's pretty good but I did expect a bit more. The edges are slightly, and I mean slightly, distorted and not as good as my older STANO Gen 2 monocular. It does come with a carry case and extras but was not needed for what I use it for. The idea is to see things at night and this one does exactly that. For example, inside a two car dark garage I could make out everything on the opposite side from paint cans to wires and read the logos on my bike. The standard IR illuminator was bright and when I put the lens cover on, which has a small hole in the center; I got more details than with the lens cover off. The IR lit up the details and the cover reduced the glare making more details available. The IR was great for longer distance.

I intentionally hit it hard a couple times with my hands to see if it would mess up. It kept working the same so I know it can handle ruggedness.

I would recommend this to anyone wanting to see in the dark, use for limited distance (around a 100 yards) and hunting with an IR laser attached for close range. Remember, it's a monocular not a scope. It doesn't have a built in reticle or crosshairs.

5High quality product works as expected.
By Christopher L. Danielson
After spending many months periodically researching different night vision scopes I stumbled upon the ATN company. This scope is by far superior to your standard run-of-the-mill GEN 1 scope. With a GEN 2+ you'll gain better picture clarity and image resolution. Though you're spending more money on this product, you're actually purchasing a law-enforcement grade night scope and you will know it. I purchased this item to use for my hobby of watching and monitoring wildlife around my home. As well, I use it for locating rats.

The diopter has a +-5 and the viewable is 18 degrees. The optics are top quality (50mm F1:1.2) and I highly recommend this device for anyone that wants something better than the typical < $600 scopes out there.

Additionally this scope can be purchased with a mount kit that enables you to mount it on an M4 or M16 if you are so inclined. I can attest that it works perfectly as a handheld as well.

Special note: The tube is sensitive in this device so follow the rules and avoid removing the daylight filter in bright locations! Other than that this device is an excellent purchase and I am a very satisfied customer.
